Divine Death – Draft One Complete

Well, I’ve finally finished the last book in Eden Lost and The Hunter Wars series.  It was with some regret that I typed the last line of this epic tale.  However, the Devil never dies so you never know and Ruler with his badly behaved demons might show up again for one more tango.

So, it leaves me with a dilemma.  Should I continue onto book two of the Bombardier trilogy, Treason?  Or should I start a whole new series.  I’ve been toying with a title, Born Robot.

Do you remember Asimov’s three laws of robotics?

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

I never liked those laws.  They took away the sport.  But I love robots, particularly those with artificial intelligence bordering on awareness.  I’ve never read a robot story that I thought did it justice.  I want to explore the artificial human mind.  I get that we don’t have the technology to emulate the human brain, but what if we did?  A cyborg is a human with mechanical parts.  What if we reverse that and create a robot with human parts?  How do you fight an enemy that is more machine than anything else?  What if they were smart enough not to look like machines?

Hmm, I like it.  Biology is a deceptive thing.  Just because something looks human doesn’t mean it is.  It would be infiltration at its finest.  Actually, the best way to destroy anything is from within.  I like the idea of people who aren’t people, but doppelgängers  on a mission.  What if they’re already here?  What if they’re coming from our future?  Imagine that.  A fight between robots pretending to be human and soldiers modified to be as indestructible as robots.  I wonder who’d win that war.  Oh, I’m liking this idea a lot.  Super soldiers versus robots in a future where we lost the toss.  Oh, that’s gotta be fun!

I’ll leave you with that thought while I head into edit runs of Divine Death.  It should be ready in a few weeks.  As a thank you to everyone who has read all eight books in this series we’ll be offering it at the lowest price possible on Amazon, which is 99c.  Any long-standing reader of this series has had to tolerate my learning curve, so you deserve the last book as a gift.  Please get in touch via [email protected] or @sdtanner1 on Twitter and I’ll be happy to send you a copy for free.
