‘The Locke Files’, book one of the new DNA series is almost done. I even have the cover ready to go!
This time I’ve had another beta reader travelling with me, chapter by chapter, and he’s done a great job giving me feedback, but also nagging me to release the next chapters to him. In fact, the poor fella hasn’t even read the end yet! He deserves an award!
I’ve grown to like Jack Locke. He’s a quiet guy dealing with a horrible tragedy by disappearing into his man cave. Throughout the book, he seemed to gradually come to life again, and by the end, I was pretty proud of him. He’s a guy I can respect.
As for the premise of this story, I found myself laying out problems I know the world is going to have in the next fifty years. It was interesting to think about today’s issues – DNA modification, genetic engineering, overpopulation, oil prices, food shortages, global sustainability and global economic domination. Take all those subjects and go forward in time and where do we end up?
Funny thing is, for all the advancements we could make, we never stop being human and that adds the most interesting element. No matter how advanced we get, how impressive the technology, we always see life in the minutiae. Under that never-ending wheel of progress, we still mostly focus on the small details of our own lives.
‘The Locke Files’ is the first in the DNA series and I’m intrigued to know what happens next. I can see the problem Jack Locke has, but I’m not sure how he’ll solve it longer term.
After this book is published, I’m ready to start ‘Hidden Evil’ which is book one of the ‘Eden Lost’ series and will follow directly on from ‘Hunter Wars’. While I was off being Jack Locke, I worked out what happens in ‘Eden Lost’ and even I was surprised. I’m ready to write book one now and I’m looking forward to stepping back into their world.
As always, would love to hear from you too!
