So, I’m 50,000 words into Hidden Evil (Eden Lost series, Book One) and man’s reaction to living in Eden has been surprising. I sort of understand how Adam messed it up now. It seems living in paradise isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Can you imagine a perfect world? Just how bored would you get? With nothing to complain about, what on earth would we all talk about?
Gears is hankering for a fight and it looks like he’s going to get more than he bargained for. Seriously, be careful what you wish for. Being 50,000 words in, I’m not sure how it’s going to end yet. Stories are like that for me. I have the characters, the situation and usually the end game, but I’m never sure what happens along the way.
I do know how the whole Hunter Wars/Eden Lost series ends and I love the ending. It makes perfect sense. When I’m writing I get ‘mini movies’ in my head of scenes that ultimately end up in the book. I have the scenes for the end of the series. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve got a lot of problems before they get there, but I know exactly what’s been going on now and how they’ll really resolve it.
Someone emailed me the other day saying the Hunter Wars series was helping them through a difficult time. I was really very touched. I started writing during a difficult time of my own and Gears, Pax, TL, Ip and the whole cast cheered me up too. It’s their loyalty, trust, faith and desire to do well, fail, then get up and try again that inspired me. That and their endless craziness made me laugh! It’s great to be in their world again and, as usual, they’re making me laugh.
Once I finish ‘Hidden Evil’ I’m going to get back to the Navigator series. It’s another post-apocalypse scenario, but set in the future. I’ve always had this idea that when man turned up we were seeded with alien DNA. In this series, the alien DNA in half the population suddenly kicks in and they’re hellbent on human genocide. It pits family members against one another and police are overwhelmed by the hundreds of thousands and ultimately millions of murders that happen within a short period. A state of emergency is called and the only people who can detect human from alien are Navigators using visor technology. I love the Navigator tech, they can see through solid objects and vast distances (can you imagine how useful that would be in combat, no one could ambush you), plus their armor is very cool. The government react very quickly to the escalating crisis and our soldiers and Navigators move in to find out what these aliens are. It’s another epic story and one of my beta readers says it has an ‘Independence Day’ feel to it.
But that’s not what I’m blogging about. ‘The Locke Files‘ is on promotion this weekend for 99¢ and I thought you might like to know. If you want to pick it up, now’s the time.
As ever, stay well and please feel free to drop me a line!
