Update!

A few years ago, after being ill for a prolonged period, I was diagnosed with several common viruses that cause repeated bouts of post viral fatigue similar to mono.  Once these common viruses have kicked off, I’m in for years of health issues, and I’m just coming to the end of my second episode in 20 years.

After the primary viruses, the mono part tends to flash in and out for a year or so, each time a bit shorter than the last.  Of course, while all this is going on, I’m back in the gym and eating healthily to strengthen my immune system again.  It’s taken a while to get a diagnosis, but after handing over quite a bit of my blood, we now know what’s causing the problem.  It’s meant that I’ve decided to take early retirement and I stopped work last year.  Once I clear this phase of the condition, I should be good to go again, and hopefully it’ll be a long time before I have another episode.

I took up writing in 2014 when I first became ill with this latest bout as a way to keep myself amused.  My mad worlds and plucky characters kept a not so great reality at bay.  Although the books make a modest profit, I was never writing to make money, and taking early retirement does not mean I now need to make a living as a writer.  Although this probably sounds sentimental, I never want to change a story to make a buck.  It means some stories will sell well and others not so much, but for every story there is a reader, even if it’s only me and my plot developer. ?

This is just an update to let you know I haven’t lost interest in writing or am about to quit.  Quite the opposite.  I am over half way through the last Dead Force book, EAGLE, and I’m already plot mapping another super cool trilogy for the Navigator series.  I’ve only been running late with releases because I’m in the post viral mono phase of my recovery.  It’s a tough window where I’m working out and wearing out faster than I should.

So, please bear with me while I get myself sorted.  I’m planning to wrap up Dead Force this month and start the new trilogy with a release date of January next year . As ever, my schedule is probably overly optimistic.  In the meantime, here is the cover for Dead Force, EAGLE.

  1. So sorry to hear of your illness. Suffering from a similar relapsing/remitting condition I can emphasize with your situation. I’ve gotten so much enjoyment from your work and I thank you for that. I will keep you in prayer.

    1. Thank you, Elizabeth. I’ve been a little reluctant to share my situation and I appreciate the support. Relapsing conditions are frustrating because you never quite know where you stand. It’s led me to becoming somewhat unreliable, which is not my usual MO. I’m very pleased you’ve enjoyed the stories, they’ve certainly kept me entertained and distracted. I plan to write many more! Sorry to hear you’re not well. Take care and be kind to yourself.

  2. Just finished the first three book, it was excellent. We travel full time in an RV for retirement, I highly recommend it as a way to find a location that might help with your illness. You can check out my blog below. Now off to read book 4.

    1. Cheers, Jon. Glad the stories keep you entertained on your long ride. Looks like you have your very own aboveground submarine. If only it were nuclear powered. ? Love the RV and the Toad, but the Riders steal the show. Excellent retirement & congrats on your 60th! I enjoy blogs and I’ve added yours to my “read” list. rvgreenboard.com
